The Sound Of Confusion: “The worlds of Mancunian indie-rock and Swedish pop collide on this new single from We Do Not Negotiate With Terrorists, their first release for Loud Attic Records who approached the quartet following live gigs earlier this year. Equipped with a shed-load of tunes, they headed to the studio this summer, bringing the gritty sounds of Salford to their Gothenburg base, the plan is for the Anglo-Swedish group to release a trio of singles over the winter mo
nths, beginning with what is apparently their darkest and most epic track, the crunching, guitar-laden ‘Big If’. It’s a suitably powerful introduction for those hearing their music for the first time.

With a post-punk sound and a strong male lead, ‘Big If’ is prevented from slipping into lad-rock tedium by virtue of female backing vocals that offset the testosterone nicely. That and the fact that it’s a pretty darn fine song. The production is an important factor too; it’s a fairy conventional piece in structure and style but the slight pop sparkle and ringing guitars that follow the chorus give it that little bit extra and make We Do Not Negotiate With Terrorists (should we just go for WDNNWT?) stand out from the pack. They promised epic and by the time they reach the end you do feel a bit windswept; it’s certainly a big sound. We look forward to hearing part two.”
