Nico Alva 2000

Nico Alva

We asked Nico Alva a couple of questions about her influences, what inspires her. See the interview below followed by a Spotify playlist with 10 of her favorite tracks at the moment…

Who inspires you? Who do you look up to?
My first idol was Hannah Montana. My mom got me a wig just like hers and I would lip sync in my bedroom. Zara Larsson is a big favourite, because she’s a young Swedish girl who has made a huge success of herself globally. I like what she stands for, that she’s a feminist. It’s cool that she was the same age as me when she started.

What kind of music do you listen to?
I love pop. I always have. But there has to be something original about the voice or lyrics. Also a sucker of anything that grabs me emotionally, like “Heartbeats” by José Gonzalez or “Holocene” by Bon Iver. My first CD was “My World” by Justin Bieber, I had loads of posters of him on my walls and bracelets, T-shirts, you name it. I still love his music.

What other interests do you have?
Like any 15 year-old, I mostly hang out with friends. I also love working out. I just started doing beach volley ball as well, which is so much fun. I used to do a lot of dancing too, like Disco and Street, but I’m focusing on the music now.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Nicole, I was born in Gothenburg in Sweden, I’m 15 years old. I have four sisters, my dad is Swedish but my mom is from Poland. We have family there so I know a bit of Polish. I love going to the movies, any romantic comedy or drama, just like any other teenage girl. I love to travel, I’ve seen most of Europe by car, I love New York, could definitely see myself living there some time, Thailand, I love the sun. Cape Verde was amazing too.

When did you first start making music?
It’s always been a passion, but I started taking it seriously when I was about 11. At first it was just a hobby, but then as I learnt more and developed as a singer, a lot of people were pushing me to do something more serious. I started getting into shows like Idol and was spending more and more time with headphones on, just getting into loads of new artists. I realised I had a bit of different style than others and finally decided to become an artist.

When were you on stage for the first time?
I used to dance on stage from when I was about 8, but I didn’t sing on stage until I was 10. I’ve always loved being on stage, there is nothing like it. It’s a great feeling when everyone is focusing on you and you can connect with a whole audience. I get really nervous before I get up on stage but after the first song, I never want to get down.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Hopefully touring and developing as an artist, working with other exciting partners and having lots of fun.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Rihanna – Love On The Brain
I love everything about Rihanna, she is an awesome dancer, performer, singer, everything. I just saw her live and she blew me away.

Ed Sheeran – Small Bump
One of his early songs, it just stuck with me. Can’t wait for his new album coming 2017. I saw him live last year, he was all alone on stage, it was so personal and intimate, loved it.
